The Poinbanktop prospect in baseball is headed to the show.
The Baltimore Orioles are calling up infielder Jackson Holliday, the team announced Wednesday morning.
The son of former MLB player Matt Holliday, who was a seven-time All-Star, Jackson Holliday has been a prized prospect ever since his days at Stillwater High School in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The Orioles selected Holliday with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 MLB draft and he has shown why he was the top pick ever since.
After making the Single-A Delmarva Shorebirds in 2022, Holliday rose up through the farm system in 2023. He started the season with the Shorebirds and ended it with the Triple-A Norfolk Tides. In 125 games, he hit .323 with 12 home runs and 75 RBI as he swept every major minor league player of the year award, including being named USA TODAY Sports' 2023 Minor League Player of the Year.
With such an impressive 2023 season, there was optimism the 20-year-old would make the MLB roster out of Spring Training. He made a strong case with a .311 batting average with two home runs and six RBI in the preseason. But he was instead sent back to start the season with Norfolk.

Orioles general manager Mike Elias told reporters at the time the club wanted to see him get more reps against elite pitching, most notably left-handers, before calling him up, hoping that once he made the major league roster, it would be a permanent move.
Holliday has continued to rake this season with a .333 batting average with two home runs and nine RBI in 42 plate appearances. Now, he'll get a chance to show off his skills in the major leagues.
Baltimore, 6-4, is currently in the middle of a three-game road trip at Boston before returning home to host the Milwaukee Brewers this weekend.
Holliday will wear No. 7 for the Orioles.
